General Description:

When ISI was approached for this 90,000 S/F facility we only had a preliminary floor plan and 1 section.  We were handed the task of developing our own design drawings detailing both the structural components as well as the exterior architectural assemblies and interior layout.  We had a very tight schedule and we actually had the structure in fabrication before we received architectural or structural drawings, so we needed to ensure that the building was designed in a manner which accounted for any future changes as the architectural drawings progressed.  This development was truly a design build and with our team approach the inevitable design changes were handled in a professional and timely manner. 

Design Highlights:

• The 3 Pad Rink area is 215’ wide x 329’ long, 32’-6” clear height in the main rink with a DoubleLok standing seam roof.
• The Amenities area is a 2 storey 30,000 SF lean-to with a built-up flat roof assembly. 
• The Zamboni and Mechanical Room area is a 2 storey 3,000 SF lean-to with a built up flat roof assembly, with a 10” structural masonry exterior wall. 
• Rink 2 features a 3 lane cantilevered oval running track with a 30’ wide dry training area on the North end.  Rink 1 has stadium seating for 1600, rink 2 and 3 seats 400. 
• The Amenities Ground Floor area includes meeting rooms, pro shop, change rooms and dry training area.  The Second Floor includes a Don Cherry's restaurant with outdoor second level patio, meeting rooms and 5 Fitness Centre. 
• The exterior assembly is a combination of 4” (2 hour Fire Rated) Insulated Panel, 3” Insulated Panel, Architectural Block and Glass Curtain Wall.
• The structure was designed as a High Importance Building allowing for refuge during extreme weather situations.  Rink 1 farming was designed to allow for future expansion and for future solar panel installation.
